Mr. Guthrie Douglas (Not Pictured)
Band Director

Ext 1336

Northeastern High School’s newest addition to the Music staff is Guthrie Douglas, a recent graduate from the Wright State School of Music with a degree in Music Education.

Mr. Douglas has been a freelance music educator and performer in the Dayton area since enrolling at Wright State in 2017. Before accepting the position as director of Bands at Northeastern High School and Northeastern Elementary, he had worked with the Northeastern Marching Jets and Indoor Percussion Ensemble as the Percussion Instructor for three years.

Mr. Douglas also had the exciting opportunity this past Spring to student teach at Northeastern with the previous Director of Bands, Tom DiNuoscio. While working with the Marching Jets and Indoor Percussion Ensemble, Mr. Douglas was very proud to be on staff for the very first OMEA State Finals performance of the Marching Jets in school history in the Fall of 2019, as well as the first appearance of the Indoor Percussion Ensemble at WGI National Semi-Finals in the Spring of 2021.

Mr. Douglas was also a  private percussion teacher at That Music Place in Springboro, OH, as well as the Percussion Coach for the Springfield Youth Symphony before graduating from Wright State.

Originally from Bloomington, IN, Mr. Douglas’s love for music exploded into a passion for performing when he joined the marching band of his alma mater. Mr. Douglas’s marching performance experience includes DCA organizations, The Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps from Racine, WI, and Cincinnati Tradition Drum and Bugle Corps from Cincinnati, OH. However, Mr. Douglas’s musical performance experience does not include just the marching arts. As a freelance classical and jazz musician, Mr. Douglas has performed with ensembles from the Lima Symphony Orchestra in Lima, Ohio, to a touring Broadway production of “Tarzan: the Musical” in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and a very special performance with the Kanye West Sunday Service Choir with Dave Chappelle.

Mr. Douglas recently moved to Springfield and is VERY excited to be with a group of student musicians near to his heart for his second year as a full-time teacher and band director. LET’S GO JETS!!
